Conjunctivitis
Chloramphenicol 0.5% eye drops/1% ointment
Apply 1 drop
at least every 2 hours then reduce frequency as infection is
controlled and continue use for 48 hours after healing.
Apply eye
ointment either at night (if eye drops used during the day) or every
6 or 8 hours if ointment used alone.
N.B. Consider
chlamydia if poor response to chloramphenicol and switch to erythromycin
eye ointment (every 6 or 8 hours).
Chlamydial or
gonococcal infections will need systemic antibiotics.
