Anusol preparations have a soothing action which provides symptomatic relief while measures such as laxative therapy or increased dietary fibre begin to take effect. Many patients also require appropriate advice on anal hygiene.
Xyloproct is a mixed local anaesthetic/hydrocortisone preparation which can help reduce more severe pain and itching. It should not be used for longer than 7 days in most patients due to the risk of contact dermatitis.
